What to Expect

Therapy is most effective when clients have a clear sense of where they want to go and how we’re going to get there. While each client’s goals are unique and the work can unfold in many different ways, here are some general guidelines.

How does the process work?

We’ll start with a brief video consultation to introduce ourselves and ensure we’re a good fit. At your first session, you’ll complete an intake, where we’ll review your family history, current lifestyle, concerns, and goals.

Therapy isn’t a linear process, but here are some things most clients can expect:

To better understand yourself: We’ll explore family dynamics, unpack major events from your childhood, and identify unconscious beliefs, fears, and insecurities you didn’t even realize you were carrying. You’ll begin to recognize how unhealed wounds and unhealthy patterns have been playing out throughout your life

To better recognize and respond to your emotions: You’ll learn how to recognize when you’re feeling triggered, tired, hurt, or anxious. You’ll also learn ways to pause and de-escalate when you’re on edge, so that you don’t say or do things that cause harm to yourself or others.

To better communicate your feelings, needs and boundaries: You’ll learn how to connect your emotions with needs, as well as healthy ways to get those needs met. You’ll learn how to be an active listener and assertive communicator, leading to healthier conflict and more authentic connection.

How do I know if therapy is working?

We identify your goals early on and check in regularly to see whether you’re making progress. While ‘progress’ means something different to everyone, my clients often say they find it easier to pause and de-escalate when they’re getting upset. They also notice that conversations with their partner go more smoothly: they find it easier to listen without getting defensive, and to say hard things rather than shut down or blow up.

What can I expect from you?

You can expect me to be honest, direct, and non-judgmental. And if I ever fall short, you can trust that I’ll be open to discussing it. You can also expect transparency about the therapeutic process - you should know what we’re working on and why - and about logistics like scheduling and fees.

How much does it cost?

I accept certain insurance plans (see below). My out of pocket rate is $175/session.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • ADD

Do you offer in-person or telehealth?

Both. In person sessions are currently limited to Tuesdays. Telehealth sessions are available throughout the week. If we meet virtually, I ask that you find a quiet, private space (your car is fine, as long as it’s parked!) with a quality internet connection.

Do you offer couples counseling or family counseling?

No, but we may occasionally invite a loved one into session if we’ve decided it might help move your work forward.

Would ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) be a good fit for me?

KAP can be a highly effective adjunctive treatment, especially for those having a hard time breaking out of rigid thinking patterns or tolerating uncomfortable emotions. I’m happy to tell you more about how it works and we can determine whether it might be a good fit for you. If you know it’s the primary treatment you’re seeking, connect with me through the clinic I contract with.
